Why is room humidification so important?
Measurements during these winter months showed humidity values too low for good and optimal well-being. The recommended value of humidity in the air inside closed spaces is 40-60%, while often the humidity in heated spaces is only 25%, which is significantly too low.
We often humidify the air in the room itself by opening the window and ventilating - but this is often the wrong thing to do! With ventilation, extremely dry air is let into the room (the lower the air temperature, the less moisture the air contains). It is also important to consider energy losses - as the room needs to be reheated to room temperature.
Warm and dry air absorbs moisture from everything in the room that has a higher moisture content (from wood, walls, pots), but mostly from people and animals. In this case, exposed parts of the body (face, neck, hands) and of course the respiratory tract (oral and nasal cavity, lungs) are exposed.
