Have you ever wondered what a stomach looks like?

At first glance, it looks like a muscle. But when we look at it up close, we see what a complex, intertwined organ it really is. Even a small disturbance is enough to upset the delicate balance in it. so it’s no surprise that so many people have stomach and bowel problems.

Two-thirds of people who seek medical attention for stomach problems are actually healthy. Most often, the doctor finds neither inflammation nor gastric ulcer. Nevertheless, patients do not invent problems, but these are most often the result of the so-called irritable stomach. The causes for it can be as different as the problems caused by it. In this leaflet you will learn what an irritable stomach is, how to recognize its symptoms and why appropriate therapy can effectively help, prevent further problems or eliminate them quickly.

In addition to the above, you will also find a lot of useful tips and information on how to protect your stomach from stress and tension and how to do something good for it. As well as how to spend festive feasts and how to avoid digestive problems on trips.

stomach and its functioning

Our stomach is a complex formation with a network structure of muscles, glands, nerves and mucous membranes that protects the stomach wall. In it are present transported substances, enctmt. hormones and other substances involved in digestion. All this is controlled by the independent part of our vegetative nervous system (which functions independently without our will) so flawlessly that we do not even notice it.

Enteric nervous system - our other brain

The so-called enteric nervous system is sometimes also called the abdominal brain or our other brains. With nearly 100 million nerve cells, it reaches virtually to our central data highway, the spinal cord. It runs through the digestive tract as a nerve plexus between layers of muscle. It controls digestion by controlling the movement of stomach and intestinal muscles, as well as the formation of digestive juices and the absorption of food from the stomach and intestines. It is characterized by being closely linked to our hormonal system.

The stomach shows off its muscles

The ingested food begins to change already in the mouth by being soaked with saliva and broken down. Food, now in the form of porridge, travels through the esophagus to the upper stomach or fundus. When eating food, the muscles of the fundus stretch, allowing the stomach to adjust to the volume of food consumed. The glands of the gastric mucosa form gastric juice, which contains hydrochloric acid. This juice starts the digestive process and does an important part of the breakdown of food in the stomach. The movement of the muscles mixes and breaks down the mushy mixture, which then travels through the lower part of the stomach to the tantrums and through the opening (this is surrounded by a strong circular muscle of the stomach gatekeeper or pylorus into the duodenum. Copies of bile and pancreas also leak into it, which helps digestive juices and enzymes to break down food.

The stomach is a digestive organ sensitive to sensations. It clearly tells us when we suppress anger within ourselves or when food besieges us in it.

When the stomach protests

The stomach is an indicator of mood and tells us clearly when it doesn’t like something. However, problems can manifest themselves very differently. Because we mostly notice them after a meal, many people attribute them to the wrong or unhealthy food. This is only true to a certain extent. Among the causes of these problems are much more often a fast daily rhythm, stress, unhealthy lifestyle, irregular diet or alcohol and nicotine.

25% of people suffer from irritable bowel syndrome There may not be organic causes for problems such as stomach pain, heartburn, feeling full, bloating, stomach cramps, or nausea and vomiting. Therefore, a doctor is often unable to diagnose any organic disease of the gastrointestinal tract. Nevertheless, the problems are not the product of the imagination: if they recur frequently, doctors talk about functional dyspepsia - the so-called irritable bowel syndrome. It is known that 25% of people suffer from this syndrome.

Don’t underestimate the problems

Of course, it is not necessary to visit a doctor every time we have well-being problems. Rest and endurance in food and an effective remedy that we get in the pharmacy often help with minor problems. However, if the symptoms do not go away or get worse, you should see a doctor immediately.

Each symptom can often have a number of causes

In the past, the symptoms of stomach ailments, ie stomach problems such as a feeling of fullness or stomach pain, were treated mainly with monopreparations. Monopreparations are mostly very specific but one-sided drugs that act on only one, specific cause of the problem. Today, we know that targeted therapeutic treatment with monopreparations is very difficult, because there are many stomach problems, and there are many causes for them, which are often intertwined.

Complex causes - a variety of problems

Often, various problems associated with an irritable stomach occur at the same time because multiple stomach functions are disrupted at the same time. In this case, the patient needs a versatile medicine to restore balance to the stomach.

Various causes of stomach problems

Muscle cramps: excessive movement of the stomach muscles.
Symptoms: feeling full, rapid feeling full, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting

Muscle weakness: insufficient movement of the stomach muscles.
Symptoms: feeling full, constant feeling full, nausea, vomiting.

Hypersensitivity to pain: hypersensitivity to irritation due to stretching of the muscles in the stomach wall or to acid.
Symptoms: feeling full, bloating, pain, abdominal cramps.

Acid: disorders in the regulation of acid secretion (too much acid, too little acid)
Symptoms: heartburn, flatulence, pain, hypersensitivity to pain.

Inflammation: inflammation of the gastric mucosa, all the way to gastric ulcer.
Symptoms: pain in the spoon or. for the chest.

Multi-targeted treatment: Why it helps faster and more effectively

There is almost always more than one cause for stomach problems, so we need to treat them by affecting all the causes at once.

The principle of operation explained

We have now deciphered the principle of operation of the new treatment, which has a faster and greater effect: we call it "multi-targeted therapy", which acts simultaneously on several factors in the complex course of the disease. With it, we target all the causes at the same time, and in this way we can quickly and effectively improve the problems.

How multi-targeted treatment helps

The reason for the feeling of fullness may be, for example, that the upper stomach wall does not stretch sufficiently because the muscle is compressed in a spasm. Regardless, there may also be a malfunction in the gastric portal (i.e., the muscle that closes and opens the opening between the stomach and duodenum). Muscle tension can also often be too low so that food is not pushed forward into the small intestine. Iberogast normalizes movement and muscle tension by simultaneously relaxing the upper stomach wall and increasing muscle tension in the lower stomach area of the tantrum. Increased hypersensitivity to pain often also results in increased sensitivity to stomach acid and also to irritation due to muscle stretching caused by food. This can, for example, manifest itself in the form of muscle cramps. In this case, it would be completely wrong to greatly reduce stomach acid, because too little stomach acid can lead to digestive disorders.
Iberogast reduces the secretion of acid and increases the secretion of protective mucus in the stomach, while reducing the hypersensitivity of the stomach to pain.

Multi-targeted treatment: targets many causes at the same time

For decades, there has been a reliable drug that works on the principle of "multiple goals at once", so it can quickly and permanently help with stomach problems. This medicine is Iberogast.
Iberogast is a combination of nine different medicinal plants that allow the drug to act on several factors simultaneously.

Thus Iberogast helps with an upset stomach

• Stomach movement is normalized.
• The upper part of the stomach (fundus) is stretched.
• Stimulates the lower part of the stomach (antrum), which quickly empties the stomach contents.
• Calms the nerves in the stomach and thus reduces the sensitivity of the stomach to pain.
• Reduces excessive acid production and thus protects the gastric mucosa.
• Increases the formation of mucus, which protects the gastric mucosa and helps it regenerate.
• In addition, Iberogast reduces bloating, inhibits inflammation and has an antibacterial effect.

Vegetable, with a quick effect

Due to its fast action and excellent tolerability, Iberogast has been a reliable drug for decades, which has become very popular for stomach problems during this time.

Because of these selected medicinal plants, Iberogast is so effective

Iberogast is a carefully balanced combination of extracts of nine valuable medicinal plants that are grown or. collected under strictly controlled conditions. The extracts are carefully checked and pharmaceutically standardized, according to well-defined procedures, whereby the quantitative ratios are precisely determined and controlled, and finally the drug is subjected to final quality control. Due to the great effort invested in the manufacture and control of each individual ingredient, Iberogast is one of the most studied drugs ever.

Iberis amarai
Iberogast was named after the riparian grenik (Iberis arnara). It is a herbaceous plant with white flowers that belongs to the crucifers. Extracts obtained from whole, fresh plants increase the tension of loose or. insufficiently contracted stomach muscles.

Medicinal forest root (Angelicae radix)
Medicinal forest root is up to 2 meters tall and belongs to the sagebrush. As a medicinal plant, it is used for loss of appetite and dyspeptic problems, such as mild stomach or intestinal cramps, a feeling of fullness or bloating. Medicinal forest root extract accelerates the secretion of gastric juices and relieves cramps.

True chamomile flower (Matricariae flos)
True chamomile is a domestic, up to 50 cm tall plant that belongs to the baskets. Chamomile leaf extracts have an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial effect. They relieve cramps and accelerate wound healing, and when ingested, they serve, among other things, in inflammatory diseases and stomach cramps.

Fruit of common cumin (Carvi fructus)
Common cumin is a domestic, mostly biennial plant, 30 to 100 cm high, which belongs to the bulbs. It is also important as a spice to help us tolerate food that is tense (e.g. cabbage). Cumin fruit extracts have an antiseptic effect and relieve stomach cramps, they are used for dyspeptic problems, such as mild problems similar to stomach cramps, bloating and a feeling of fullness.

Fruit of the spotted thistle (Cardui mariae fructus)
The spotted thistle is a 60 to 150 cm high basket with large purple-red flower baskets. It originates from the Mediterranean area and the Orient, and is often grown in gardens as an ornamental plant. The active ingredient of spotted thistle is silymarin, which protects the liver from harmful influences and promotes the regeneration of liver cells. It protects the cells in the stomach.

Common lemon balm leaf (Melissae follium)
Lemon balm belongs to the lips, is 30 to 70 cm high and smells strongly of lemons. Lemon balm leaf extracts have a calming effect and relieve bloating, they are also used for nervous sleep disorders and functional stomach problems.

Mint repair leaves (Menthae piperitae folium)
Peppermint belongs to the lips and is 30 to 60 cm high. It was first described in 1696 in England. It is a cross between two different species of plants that grow in the wild and reproduce only by dwarfs. The leaf extracts stimulate the formation of bile, act against stomach cramps and relieve bloating. Peppermint leaves are used to relieve cramps in the stomach, gallbladder and bile duct.

On vacation without stomach problems

This is unfortunately easier said than done. Often, stress occurs before the trip. Do I have all the necessary documents? Did I forget to take something with me? Is the travel pharmacy perfect? We’ve put together a list of things you need to think about before traveling, and a list of things that belong in a travel pharmacy. Also, be sure to check the expiration date of medications and sterile compresses.

Foreign lands, exotic food, familiar problems

Of course, there should be no shortage of medicine for stomach and intestinal problems in a complete travel tekar. Iberogast is recommended because it has a targeted effect on several causes of stomach problems. The range of possible causes on holiday is particularly large: exotic dishes, strong spices and poor hygiene conditions cause the stomach just such problems as severe heat or too much sun.

Our advice
Gradually get used to the specialties offered to you in the place where you spend your vacation. Strong spices, fatty foods, as well as unfamiliar oils can strain the stomach and intestines and cause problems.

The following things belong in the travel pharmacy:

If you have everything from the list below, you are well equipped for your next trip.

• Do I have everything? Has nothing expired?
• prescription medicines (eg antibiotics) in sufficient quantities
• medicines for stomach and intestinal problems, e.g. Iberogast
• medicines for vascular problems
• medicines for diarrhea or constipation
• medicines against premada, e.g. Echinaforce
• medicines for irritating cough, e.g. Isla-Moos or Isla-Mint lozenges
• paper towels, patches, tweezers, scissors, tick removal tweezers, bandages
• medicines for sore throat
• painkillers, eye or ear drops
• universal bandage and staples
• compresses, thermometer for measuring temperature, anti-burn gel, disinfectant
• sunscreen, wound healing ointment
• after shading lotion, sunburn cream, insect repellent

How to spend the holidays without problems?

Christmas, Easter and New Year’s Eve present a great ordeal for the stomach and intestines. Already due to the preparations for the holidays - which of course put an additional strain on the stomach - we are mostly under a lot of pressure for weeks before. We need to organize a family celebration, choose and buy gifts. Often, the Christmas celebration has to be organized by a single person. And just before the holidays, we need to buy more ingredients. Stress alone can affect the stomach. During the holidays, the stomach must then digest at least a piece of roast too much, a sip of wine and dishes containing sugar and fat. Because high-calorie meals have a small volume, the stomach and intestinal walls do not send a signal that the stomach and intestines are full. In this way, we deceive the natural feeling of fullness. in addition, foods high in fat have little fiber.

The best tips to help you avoid stomach problems during the celebration

• Be moderate in eating and drinking.
• Drink plenty of fluids. Food swells due to liquid, so we quickly feel full.
• Sweets do not satisfy hunger, but stimulate the appetite even more.
• Limit anything that causes the formation of stomach acid (alcohol, fatty foods, coffee, nicotine).
• Anyone suffering from heartburn should sleep with their upper body slightly raised.
• A glass of brandy does not help with the feeling of fullness.
• Bitter substances contained in spirits stimulate digestion at most. lberoqast contains plant extracts in a much more concentrated form.

Does school affect the stomach?

Do only older people have an upset stomach? Misconception: Both doctors and parents talk about how the growing consumption of sweets and the stress of school and exams affect children's stomachs. This causes stomach problems. Iberogast can help with this quickly, as it is well tolerated by humans.

Stomach problems in pregnancy: completely normal

Almost 4/5 of pregnant women in the last third of pregnancy suffer from stomach problems. The reasons are the growth of the baby putting pressure on the stomach and hormonal changes. In addition, there is a reduced ability to close the muscle at the entrance to the stomach. Here, too, treatment with Iberogast makes sense; however, a doctor should be consulted in advance.

Golden rules

... against stress
Even if you do it with difficulty: avoid stress and anger. This protects the sensitive pharyngeal mucosa. Avoid situations that are stressful for you and overcome stress that you cannot avoid with relaxation techniques. Take Iberogast even on the go when you can’t or don’t want to slow down the pace on the trip.

... for optimal drinking habits
Make sure your stomach gets enough fluid. You should drink at least 2 liters of fluid a day. Water, tea or unsweetened fruit juices have a positive effect on the functioning of the stomach. Avoid mineral water with a lot of carbonic acid or drinks that contain too much acid. drink real coffee and drink high-quality coffee substitutes (organically grown chicory, etc.) instead. Also, reduce your consumption of real tea and alcohol especially on an empty stomach.

... for healthy behavior
Try to quit smoking by using self-help programs. these are only possible, avoid medical. which adversely affect gastric stuznlco. If you are taking medications that put a strain on your stomach, talk to your doctor. He or she will tell you what you can change or advise you on additional treatment with Iberogast.

... when eating
Take enough time. Enjoy each bite and chew the food thoroughly. Enzymes break down e.g. sugar already in the mouth and thus save the stomach work. Divide meals throughout the day. Several small meals are better than one hearty one. Don't eat foods that you know cause bloating, no matter how tasty they are. When cooking, use delicious herbs rather than strong spices. If possible, eat foods that are low in fat and reduce the proportion of meat in particular. With meat and fat, the stomach has the most to do. Check your eating habits or consult about eating. Eating regularly will definitely do you good. And calmly create new dishes: a balanced diet has a positive effect on the well-being of the gastrointestinal tract. Even enough exercise can have a good effect on the functioning of the stomach and intestines.

That way you stay healthy

As you have now learned, it causes stomach problems for several reasons. It is known that monopreparations do not help in severe cases. If too fast and stressful life in the family, school or at work affects the stomach, you can help yourself with Iberogast and with a little rest and relaxation. Do sports and eat a healthy diet, because with a healthy diet you can prevent most diseases, and in addition, it helps us maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract, which is vital.

We have an appetite, we eat and drink with pleasure and joy. And we can make a huge contribution to keeping our stomachs healthy.
