Pegasti badelj – splošno, uporaba, koristi

Sunday, 22 December 2024

The liver is the most important metabolic organ, accounting for 60% of all metabolic processes, producing bile and acting as a storage organ for many substances of primary metabolism (glucose, glycogen, iron). The liver of an adult usually weighs 1.0 to 2.5 kg. They lie just below the diaphragm on the right side of the upper abdomen, to the right of the stomach. There is also a gallbladder near them, where bile is stored. The liver has an extraordinary power of regeneration, as it is one of the few internal organs capable of natural regeneration. They can be completely restored even when only a quarter of the unaffected tissue remains.

The most common liver diseases are inflammations (hepatitis), which are the result of viral infections, poisoning with hepatotoxic molecules or due to alcoholism, autoimmune diseases and hereditary factors. Acute hepatitis can turn into a chronic form with scarring, with hepatocytes being replaced by nonspecific connective tissue - we are talking about cirrhosis of the liver. Liver damage can also be caused by hemochromatosis, a disease in which iron accumulates in the body. Liver cancer is on the rise, mainly hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma, and metastatic cancers, usually from other parts of the gastrointestinal tract. Hereditary diseases include Wilson's disease, in which copper accumulates in the body.

Excessive alcohol consumption is the most common cause of liver disease in developed countries. Alcoholic diseases such as alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis are at least five times more common than others. In Africa and Asia, up to 20% of the population carries the hepatitis B virus. In these countries, the most important liver diseases are cirrhosis and primary liver cancer caused by the virus. Slovenia ranks fourth in Europe in terms of mortality due to liver diseases. Only Hungary, Romania and Croatia are ranked higher. Liver disease is high on the mortality scale mainly because the liver is a nerve-free organ that would translate pain. In addition, they can function at about one-third of their capacity, and significant liver dysfunction only becomes apparent when more than 85% of the hepatocytes are affected. Numerous tests of liver function are available to determine liver function.

Among the plants used for the protection and faster recovery of the liver, the spotted thistle (Silybum marianum) and the schisandra (Schisandra chinensis) are important, and all plants with bitters show action by activating bile bioproduction.

About the Spotted Thorn

Data on the beneficial effect of the fruits of the spotted thistle on the liver were recorded in the sixteenth century. Its action is well researched today, and its effectiveness has also been confirmed by clinical research.

The spotted thistle has large green leaves with white spots that are serrated and have thorns at the edges. At the end of the stem is a round basket-shaped inflorescence of purple color. From fertilized flowers develop fruits that have a hard shell and silky hairs that soon fall off. The fruits are 6 to 7 mm long and blackish brown in color. Spotted thistle is an annual or rarely a biennial.

Active ingredients of spotted thistle

The fruit of the spotted thistle contains 1.5 to 3% silymarin, which is a mixture of flavonolignans from the fruit envelope. The main constituents of silymarin are silibinin or silibin (50%), silicristin (25%) and silidianin (25%), and silandrin, silymonin and silibinomers (tri-, tetra- and pentamers of silibinin) have also been identified. It also contains flavonoids (taxifoline, quercetin, dihydrocepherol, kaempferol, apigenin, naringenin, eriodiktiol and chrysoeriol). Oil (20 to 30%) with long-chain unsaturated fatty acids (60% linoin, 30% oleic and 9% palmitic acid), tocopherol (38%) and sterols (cholesterol, campesterol, stigmasterol and sitosterol) is important. The fruit of the spotted thistle also contains 25 to 30% protein.

Silymarin is poorly soluble in water, so the use of aqueous extracts such as tea is not appropriate. It is more effective to use preparations (such as tablets) that contain concentrated thistle extract, but even in this case, silymarin is difficult to pass from the digestive tract into the blood. Intravenous use (injection into a vein) is most effective.

Silibinin, called silibin for short, contains silibin A and B and isosilibin Ain B, which are diastereoisomers.

Function and usability of the spotted thistle

Pharmacological research

In vivo studies in rats and mice have demonstrated the hepatoprotective effects of silymarin and silibinin after acute liver poisoning induced by tetrachloromethane, paracetamol, ethanol, phalloidin or alpha-amanitin; the latter are the main toxic compounds in the green fly agaric (Amanita phalloides).

The full mechanism by which thistle preparations achieve this effect has not yet been fully investigated, but it is assumed that at least three mechanisms are involved. According to the first mechanism, the ingredients from the spotted thistle are supposed to stimulate the synthesis of DNA, RNA and proteins and thus indirectly stimulate the regeneration of liver cells. According to another mechanism, silymarin is supposed to affect the properties of the liver cell membrane in such a way that toxins cannot pass through it. According to a third mechanism, silymarin is supposed to scavenge radicals in liver cells and thus protect the liver from uncontrolled oxidative processes. Due to its antioxidant action, the concentration of the natural protective substance - glutathione - is supposed to increase in the liver. Glutathione cells are used to remove radicals, but it also reacts with and inactivates other toxic substances found in the liver.

Use of spotted thistle

Spotted thistle is used to prevent and treat liver damage caused by alcohol or toxins, liver dysfunction, cirrhosis and fatty liver.

The daily dose is 200 to 400 mg of silymarin, calculated on silibinin, if we take preparations from the drug, or 12 to 15 g of the drug. The use of tea is not common, but it is prepared by pouring 3 g of crushed fruit with cold water and boiling it quickly, or by pouring boiling water over it. Let stand for ten to thirty minutes.

Clinical research on the spotted toadstool

The effectiveness of spotted thistle has been proven in several clinical trials. The use of preparations in green fly poisoning (Amanita phalloides) is interesting, but it is difficult to investigate this effect. It is difficult to plan research, as poisonings are neither regular nor very frequent, and it would also be unethical to deny some poisoned people the best possible treatment for the sake of control. According to doctors from Naples, a family of four who were brought in for treatment for greenfly poisoning was deteriorating despite standard treatment. On the third day after the poisoning, they started giving silymarin injections. It was then that their health immediately began to improve. All four survived and were able to leave the hospital on the thirteenth day.

Doctors from a Vienna clinic report that they have had eighteen cases of poisoning in two years after the introduction of the spotted toadstool treatment for greenfly poisoning. Except for one who ate extremely large amounts of mushrooms due to suicide, all survived. Based on past experience, doctors find that the spotted thistle has significantly improved the chances of survival of the poisoned. Treatment was most successful when it was started earlier than 48 hours after intoxication, which is not always easy, as the first signs of intoxication sometimes appear only after more than twelve hours. Despite major complications, those who started treatment only after 72 hours also survived.

Swiss doctors examined the files on 205 cases of poisoning over a ten-year period. 22% of all poisoned people died, and among children under the age of ten, the mortality rate was as high as 51%. The proportion of deaths did not depend on gender and time of arrival at the hospital. Doctors wanted to find out which of the treatments used was the most successful, which was not easy. On average, poisoned people received eight different treatments, and a patient was treated in as many as twenty ways at the same time. A total of thirty different treatments were used over ten years, of which eight were general life support functions (blood transfusions, etc.), seven ways to remove toxins from the body (gastric lavage, dialysis, etc.), and fourteen medications. Statistical analysis of all these data showed that only three treatments were successful: penicillin, high-pressure oxygen, and silymarin.

Other studies confirm that silymarin also successfully protects the liver from poisoning by organic solvents (eg tetrachloromethane, toluene, xylene) and reduces the damage that can be caused to the liver by long-term use of certain drugs (eg phenothiazine). In the factory, where workers were exposed to toluene and xylene fumes, all two hundred workers were medically examined. At 49, they found that their livers were not functioning normally and that they had an altered blood count as a result. Thirty workers with hepatic impairment took the preparation with spotted thistle for one month, and 19 served as a control. After one month, all 49 workers were re-examined. In the control group, the condition did not change within a month, and in workers who used thistle, they noticed that the blood picture and liver function improved, although not yet completely normal.

Several studies have found the usefulness of preparations of spotted thistle also in cirrhosis of the liver. However, one clinical study involving chronic alcoholics with cirrhosis of the liver found that approximately 25% of patients died within two years, regardless of whether they received silymarin (450 mg daily) or not.

In viral hepatitis, concomitant use of thistle with concomitant standard treatment significantly shortened the duration of treatment.

Other case-based methods for resolving high cholesterol / triglycerides

Solving liver complications is not always solved only with the spotted thistle, they can also be solved with Regulat products. You can view the Regulat product below under related items.

The 48-year-old patient has undergone regular laboratory tests since 2005, always showing elevated levels of cholesterol and other blood lipids, elevated blood viscosity, rapid heartbeat, and often elevated uric acid.

Many methods, such as bleeding, fasting, consumption of mineral supplements, artichoke preparations and the like, have brought significant improvement, but cholesterol has not returned to normal levels. It was the same with uric acid.

Therapy

In the spring, the patient ingested 5 bottles of cascading fermented bio concentrate, taking one to two (1-2) tablespoons in the morning and evening.

The result

A laboratory test he performed in September showed normal levels of cholesterol, triglycerides and uric acid for the first time.

Cholesterol - this is formed in the liver

The 88-year-old patient and the 72-year-old married couple had severely elevated cholesterol levels. Both refused conventional treatment of the said metabolic disorder (with drugs).

Therapy

Together they performed a two-month "swing" therapy using cascading fermented bio concentrates:

• For the first week, they started taking one (1) teaspoon of bio concentrate every morning and evening, whipping it well in their mouths and then swallowing it.

• In the second week, they increased the dosage to one (1) tablespoon.

• Third week two (2) tablespoons.

• Fourth week by two (2) tablespoons in the morning, noon and evening.

• In the fifth week, they reduced the dose to two (2) tablespoons each morning and evening.

• For the past three weeks, they have only taken one (1) teaspoon each morning and evening.

The results were brilliant:

The patient's baseline 318 mg% cholesterol dropped to 179 mg% after eight weeks.

The patient had a baseline of 396 mg% cholesterol dropped to 265 mg% after eight weeks.

Another patient, 78 years old, suffered from arteriosclerosis and general fatigue. Cholesterol (LDL) levels were 280 mg%. The HDL value was normal.

The result of therapy

After eight weeks of consuming the cascading fermented bio concentrate, she felt a significant general improvement, her cholesterol level dropped to 205 mg%.

Action of cascaded fermented bio concentrates in elevated cholesterol

There is probably no other question in the medical profession to which there are as many conflicting answers as the question of cholesterol. Even though normal cholesterol parameters are no longer so strictly limited, a certain degree of “cholesterol hysteria” still occurs.

It is impossible to mention all aspects of cholesterol in this report, so we will mention only the most important ones:

1. Cholesterol is a basic substance. Our body (liver and intestines) produces about six grams a day, even if we follow a strict low-fat diet.

2. Cholesterol is an essential component of every cell membrane and is a basic substance needed for the biosynthesis of estrogens, cortical steroids from the adrenal cortex, androgens and progesterone. We should also mention the synthesis of calciferol in the skin, which is formed with the help of cholesterol and solar radiation. This incomplete list of physiological cholesterol factors alone shows us that life would not be possible without it.

In the average healthy adult population, total cholesterol levels usually range somewhere between 160 and 220 mg. If metabolism is slowed down due to poor diet or lack of exercise, cholesterol levels rise.

A diet robbed of essential life nutrients (caused not only by high amounts of fat ingested) can disrupt fermentation metabolism. Excessive amounts of protein, as a result of excessive meat intake and insufficient natural protein, can lead to impaired functioning of our best metabolic factory - our liver.

Cholesterol can only travel in a liquid state (in the bloodstream), for which it needs protein. HDL lipoproteins (so-called good cholesterol) are known to be good transporters, but if the liver wants to regulate the process of cholesterol synthesis (formation and breakdown of cholesterol and the synthesis of lipoproteins), they need high-quality proteins that are as similar as possible to natural proteins. Cascade fermented bio concentrates with all the mentioned vital substances enable the synthesis of cholesterol in a very perfect form. This can explain why cascading fermented bio concentrates, unique natural products, manage to normalize cholesterol levels so quickly and efficiently and at the same time regenerate metabolism. The adjustment usually takes four to eight weeks.
