Customer question:
How common is lymph node cancer? Anonymous customer's question
Pharmacist's answer:
Lymph node cancer can occur as a primary lymph node cancer or as an extension of cancer from another organ. Several types of cancer can start in the lymph nodes themselves or spread to them.
Some cancers, such as lymphomas (Hodgkin's lymphoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma), begin in the lymphatic system's cells, including the lymph nodes, spleen, tonsils, and bone marrow. These cancers are typically associated with lymph nodes.
Cancer can also spread to the lymph nodes from other organs, called lymph node metastases. This is a more common form, as many cancers first affect a local organ or tissue and then can spread to nearby lymph nodes.
For example, breast cancer often spreads to the lymph nodes under the armpit. The frequency of lymph node cancer depends on several factors, including age, sex, genetics, environmental factors, and the type of cancer.
