Why is iron important?

Iron is one of the most important minerals in the body, which also plays a key role in our well-being. Iron is crucial for the production of hemoglobin, which is found in red blood cells and is responsible for carrying oxygen around the body.

What symptoms should we look out for in iron deficiency?  

We will first notice increased fatigue and tiredness at the slightest exertion, malaise, decreased resistance, shortness of breath, a faster or uneven heartbeat, and even dizziness or headaches. In severe cases, when iron levels are extremely low, chest and leg pain can occur. There may be a decrease in the concentration and frequency of headaches, which should also be considered in case of insomnia, muscle disorders, ulcers in the corners of the mouth, changes in taste and burning tongue, as well as the appearance of brittle nails and hair.

How much iron do we need per day?  

Daily needs for iron, which should be ingested in the form most easily absorbed by the human body (ferro form of iron), depend on age and physiological conditions: from 5 mg / day in early childhood to 10 mg / day in adulthood and even 27 mg / day during pregnancy.

What are the optimal iron supplements? 

Vitamin C
