Customer question:
How to properly clean the ear with a pump? Anonymous customer's question
Pharmacist's answer:
Ear cleaning with a pump or pump can be done to remove excess earwax or debris from the ear canal. You must be careful when performing this procedure to prevent damage to the ear.
Things you will need are a syringe (no needle) or an earwax removal kit (available at pharmacies), warm water at body temperature (never use cold or hot water), a towel, and a bowl or sink.
Wash your hands, warm the water, sit or stand or position yourself with the ears facing up, gently pull the outer ear up and back to straighten the ear canal, with the pump in one hand and warm water in the other, squirt a light a stream of water into the ear canal.
Direct the water towards the top of the ear canal and not directly towards the eardrum. Allow the water to remain in the ear for a few seconds (usually 15-30 seconds), then tilt your head to the side to allow the water and any wax or debris to drain. Have a towel handy to wipe up the water that runs out.
You may need to repeat the process a few times to remove stubborn earwax or debris. Be patient and gentle, as spraying water too forcefully into the ear canal can push the material deeper or possibly even damage the eardrum. After successfully cleaning the ear, use a clean, dry cloth to pat the ear to remove any remaining moisture gently.
It is important to note that ear washing should be done with caution and should not be attempted if you have had past ear problems, a ruptured eardrum, or are unsure about the procedure. If you experience pain, discomfort, or dizziness, or if you have any concerns about flushing your ear in this way, it is recommended that you consult a doctor or otolaryngologist for safe and effective earwax removal.
