Customer question:
What helps with constipation naturally? Anonymous customer's question
Pharmacist's answer:
There are quite a few different options for relieving constipation. What you choose will depend mainly on why you are constipated and whether it is a new or long-term problem.
You may be able to solve your constipation problem on your own without the help of a doctor. Your diet has a significant influence on bowel movements.
- Eat more fiber: fiber in the stool makes the stool softer. Gradually increase the amount of fiber in your diet until you consume at least 20 to 35 grams of fiber per day. Good sources of fiber include whole grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables. Prunes and cereal bran are also proven foods to relieve constipation.
- Stay hydrated: water is also essential to prevent constipation. Try to drink at least 2 L of water a day.
- Drinking coffee: while caffeinated drinks and alcohol can cause dehydration, a cup of coffee or tea in the morning can help you flush.
- Limit high-fat/low-fiber foods: Cheese and other dairy products, processed foods, and meats can worsen constipation.
- Exercise regularly: moving your body will also move your intestines.
- Laxatives: save laxatives for constipation that does not improve.
