Customer question:
How do we recognize the symptoms of atypical pneumonia? Anonymous customer's question
Pharmacist's answer:
Atypical or atypical or unusual pneumonia differs from classic bacterial pneumonia in its causes, symptoms, and treatment. Although atypical pneumonia symptoms can be similar to those of classic bacterial pneumonia, they can be milder and appear gradually.
Common symptoms of atypical pneumonia may include:
- slight fever or fever,
- chronic, dry cough,
- breathing problems,
- general malaise,
- chest pains and
- nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Are the symptoms of atypical pneumonia similar to the symptoms of bacterial pneumonia?
Symptoms of atypical pneumonia can be similar to those of bacterial pneumonia but are usually less severe or vary depending on the cause of the pneumonia. Classic bacterial pneumonia usually causes more pronounced symptoms, such as high fever, productive cough with purulent sputum, severe chest pain, and general malaise.
Symptoms of atypical pneumonia can be more subtle or chronic and include mild fever, dry cough, difficulty breathing, and general malaise. Other symptoms may also appear, such as digestive problems (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), muscle pain, fatigue, and headache.
Although the symptoms may be similar, some differences exist between atypical and bacterial pneumonia. Atypical pneumonia is usually caused by viruses, mycoplasma, or other microorganisms, while bacterial pneumonia is caused by bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, or Staphylococcus aureus.
