Thank you for your question regarding Novalac prenatal capsules, which are intended to provide supplementary support in developing a newborn or pregnancy planning. Novalac prenatal capsules contain a metabolically active form of folate, which allows the body to utilize it best in its metabolic process. Since women of childbearing age also have an increased need for the mineral iron supplement, which supports the formation of blood cells, oxygen transport, and cognitive functions, a microencapsulated form of iron has been added to Novalac prenatal.
The microencapsulated form of iron prevents common side effects when consuming iron supplements, such as belching with a metallic taste, nausea, and a heavy feeling in the stomach.
Taking iron supplements often also causes black-colored (darker colored) stools, because not all of the iron is absorbed into the body. Iron not absorbed in the intestines undergoes chemical changes, causing the stool to turn dark brown or black. You have correctly noticed that after taking Novalac prenatal capsules, you notice a darker stool color, a standard change, as it contains vitamins and minerals (such as iron).
