Warts (Verrucae) are small growths of the upper layers of the skin caused by viruses. Their origin is in the dermis: depending on the type of virus and the place of occurrence, we distinguish different types of warts:
& # 8226; flat warts occur mainly in children and adolescents: they are flat to convex, skin-colored and occur mainly in the group on the face and on the back of the hands. They spread due to scratching.
& # 8226; normal warts appear at any age. They reproduce by constant self-infection. They almost always occur on the hands, especially on wet-cold hands. They are larger and taller than flat warts and have a heavily furrowed upper layer divided into strands.
& # 8226; thorny warts are common warts on the soles. Due to their body weight, warts cannot grow outwards, so they grow thorny into the skin and cause severe pain when walking. Bleeding in the tissue of the nipple produces black spots.
& # 8226; bud warts (condylomas) are found on the mucous membranes, in the area of the mouth and lips, near the anus or in the genital area. They are usually transmitted through sexual intercourse. Bud warts in children should always arouse suspicion of sexual abuse.
& # 8226; molluscs like to form in small epidemics. They are transmitted by dirt. The incubation period lasts several weeks. Then yellowish to light pink coarse nodules appear centrally or in groups, centrally concave. They are especially common on the face, neck, upper body and upper arms.
Warts are difficult to treat. People are not immune to them, but at the same time they can become re-infected constantly on their own or with dirt. So don’t scratch or squeeze your nipples!
Does the child need to see a doctor?
If the warts are a cosmetic defect or if they are causing pain, see a doctor.
So the doctor helps
& # 8226; Warts on the legs are treated for several weeks with patches or a solution of salicylic acid. If the warts do not disappear in this way, the doctor can surgically remove them in an outpatient clinic under local anesthesia.
& # 8226; Flat warts and mollusks almost always disappear on their own. Your doctor may prescribe a vitamin A acid gel.
That's how you help the child
