Customer question:
Is bacterial conjunctivitis very dangerous? Anonymous customer's question
Pharmacist's answer:
Bacterial conjunctivitis, also known as bacterial conjunctivitis, is usually a less dangerous infection, but it can be very uncomfortable and bothersome. Although it is primarily mild and responds well to treatment, it can be a severe problem in rare cases and requires immediate medical attention.
Features of bacterial conjunctivitis:
- redness of the eye,
- a purulent discharge that can cause the eyelids to stick together, especially in the morning,
- swelling and sensation of sand or foreign body in the eye,
- watering eyes,
- itching or burning and
- sensitivity to light.
Although rare, bacterial conjunctivitis can lead to more severe problems such as keratitis (inflammation of the cornea), which can affect vision if left untreated. In sporadic cases, the infection can spread to other parts of the eye or the tissues around the eye, causing orbital cellulitis that requires emergency medical attention. If signs of a more serious infection appear, it is imperative to seek immediate medical attention.
