Customer question:
Can Mirzaten be used for sleep? Anonymous customer's question
Pharmacist's answer:
Mirtazapine is the active ingredient in the drug above, which was developed by the Dutch pharmaceutical concern Organon and was first approved for the treatment of depressive disorder in the Netherlands in 1994. It was introduced in the United States in 1996 under Remeron. Mirtazapine works like many other antidepressants by increasing the concentration of certain neurotransmitters (chemical messengers) in the brain, but it differs from others in the way it works. Instead of preventing the recycling of these transporters, it blocks the specific receptors that these transporters interact with.
Some evidence suggests that mirtazapine may be a practical help for insomnia in people with depression. It is not entirely clear whether the drug directly reduces insomnia symptoms or indirectly helps improve sleep by reducing the severity of depressive symptoms.
